Teary-Eyed Over Cast Iron

Know what these are? Yeah, they're a couple of cast iron skillets, perfect for fried chicken and cornbread. But these aren't just any cast iron skillets.

My grandma casually gave me these last week thinking I might want them. When I asked her where they came from, she said, "I think they were grandma's" meaning her grandma. Meaning my great-great-grandma. For real. Sure, Grammy, I guess I'll take 'em. Whah?!?! I almost cried. It still makes me teary. To think that I will cook in a fifth-generation pan is almost more than I can take. Just wanted to share.

I have family cast iron pans as well. In fact, my aunt has an entire wood burning kitchen where we make heirloom recipes in my great, great, grandmas cast iron skilliets and even baking pans. It's such a special experience.

I hope you heat oil in your cornbread pan while you're mixing your batter! Once you pour your corn bread batter into the hot pan with heated oil, you get the perfect crispiness on the outside with every bite.

love your blog. I'm new here.

What a treasure. I think I'd get teary eyed every time I used them.
